ABC announce ABC2 Digital Free to Air Television Station
ABC2 is Australia's newest free to air digital TV channel.
ABC2 will be a complementary service to the main ABC TV channel offering a block of children's content (weekdays and Saturday), premier investigative journalism programs such as Foreign Correspondent and Australian Story, quality documentaries, history, arts, science and lifestyle programming.
There will be a lot of duplication of existing ABC programming to begin with. This is in recognition that we all lead hectic lives and some of us don't get home till our favourite program has already been aired. Of course, if you're always missing out, you can consider a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) like the Topfield TF5000PVRt.
There’s a focus on music as well – some from the ABC’s extensive archives and the Studio 22 catalogue, as well as a series of high profile names in concert, never seen before on the ABC.
ABC2 will have a strong regional and rural focus with repeat screenings of Landline and the only chance for ABC audiences to view all eight versions of Stateline. The schedule will also feature a new prime-time fifteen-minute regional news program, Australia Wide together with the international current affairs program Hemispheres, previously only available on the ABC's international channel ABC Asia Pacific. If you'd like to receive the international channel, you'll need some satellite gear, found here.
ABC Managing Director Russell Balding said,
"ABC2 is here for the long term. The channel has been developed on a sustainable production and funding model and will continue to deliver high quality ABC programming to Australian audiences for years to come."
